Freight is still a male-dominated industry. The women building careers in it know that in a way that's hard to explain to people who haven't lived it. In this Women's History Month special of The Journey Podcast, Will Jenkins steps back and hands the conversation to four members of the Journey team: Erin Sweeney, Maya Quijada, Nicki Childers, and Morgan MacDermaid.
The conversation is honest. They talk about what it's actually like to be the only woman in a room — in a sales meeting, on a carrier call, at a freight conference — and the specific friction that comes with that. They discuss the stereotypes they've encountered, the objectification that gets brushed off as industry culture, and the long process of proving competence in spaces that weren't built with them in mind.
But it's also about what changes things. Female leaders who advocated for them. Colleagues who asked for their opinions before assuming they wouldn't have relevant ones. The importance of transparency around pay, process, and what's actually available to women who want to advance. Allyship that goes beyond public statements.
This episode is for anyone building a freight team, hiring for one, or trying to understand what an actually inclusive logistics organization looks like in practice — not in principle.
